# 1.	Module introduction

This module builds up on the previous modules of the course and its objective is introducing students to data journalism inthe newsroom. This module builds up on the previous modules of the course and its objective is introducing students to basic data analysis with the purpose of finding stories.

This module builds up on the previous modules of the course and its objective is introducing students to data journalism in the newsroom. \

Students will go through several examples and will find out how to turn numbers into stories and what is data journalism and origins of data journalism. And students will review award-winning data journalism projects and understand the methods of producing data driven news.  \
\
And module covers how to begin incorporating data journalism into newsroom culture. as well as will also help you to understand why data journalism is important and learn what technological innovations are made in the world and Turkey.&#x20;

Define the core concepts of data journalism and origins of data journalism.\
Understand how to turn numbers into stories.\
Understand the methods of producing data journalism news.\
Understand what skills necessary for working with data by reviewing case studies from Turkey and from other countries.

**Introduction**\
\
Last 20 years, more of our lives is being stored in a database. With that explosion of data, journalists now more than ever need the skills to analyze and understand data to then produce the stories hidden in the information for newsrooms. \
\
This new model of journalism is an emerging area of practice and study, which draws on knowledge from several disciplines, including journalism, new media, information science, social sciences, data and computer sciences, data analytics, design, and storytelling. \
\
In this context, students will understand data journalism, examine award-winning projects and see how to make data journalism news using tools.&#x20;
